Abstract

Degraded lands can be effectively nsed for producing forage, nutritious leaf fodder, fuel wood and timber with the introduction of silvopastoral system based on species like Albizia amara, Leucaena leucocephala, Dichrostachys cinerea (tree component); Chrysopogan fulvus, Stylosanthes hamata and S. scabra (pasture component). The biomass productivity of 7.13 t ha^-1 year^-1 was recorded. The discounted B:C ratio of this system worked out to 1:1.52.

Abstract

The use of linear tree growth models, to describe the change in the size/response variate viz volume, biomass) with respect to the explanatory variate (height, diameter at breast height, age), is very common in forestry/agroforestry. However, these models may sometimes lead to misleading predictions viz 'negative estimation of size' exclusively for lower range of the explanatory variate. This study elaborates this issue and a feasible solution is proposed to overcome this problem. It is contrived that when the phenomenon is inherently undesirable, as the negative estimation of size in simple linear models for lower range of explanatory variable, to put implied lower bound on the raw values is most appropriate.

Abstract

In Prosopis cineraria (L.) Mac bride technique on air layering was developed successfully at Central Arid Zone .Research institute, Jodhpur. 100 per cent success was achieved in the twigs of 15 mm diameter treated with Seradix B 3 clay and covered with clay during the month of july and August. Profuse ischolar_maining and better establishment was observed in twigs or around 15 mm diameter.For best results, attempting air layering in July, detaching from mother tree in September and transplanting in field in the month of November would be useful under arid conditions.
